Det kinesiska nyåret: Drakens år

I år firar vi Drakens år enligt den kinesiska almanackan. Draken är en otroligt stark symbol för lycka och de anses vara perfekta ledare.

Det sägs att Jadekejsaren en gång i tiden kallade samman ett djur av varje art till ett möte men eftersom dessa möten hade rykte om sig att vara långtråkiga, var det endast 12 olika djur som faktiskt dök upp.

Djuren kombineras med de fem elementen: metall, vatten, trä, eld och jord. I år är det alltså vattendrakens år. Vattnet anses kyla ner den annars hetsiga draken och får den att stanna upp och tänka över sina beslut.

I hela landet äter man Tang Yuan, små runda bollar gjorda av klibbigt ris för att fira nyåret. Den runda formen symboliserar att hela familjen är tillsammans och inte kommer att splittras under året.

Är du född i drakens år, måste du vara extra försiktig under det kommande året då du löper risk att bli angripen av onda andar... Ha på dig röda kläder för att undvika detta då rött är eldens färg som håller andar borta.

En vanlig gåva är röda kuvert med pengar, så kallade Hong Bao, då dessa ger tur både till givaren och till mottagaren. Ju mer pengar i kuvertet, desto mer tur till givaren! Nya sedlar innebär extra mycket lyckogivande qi, livskraft.

The Chinese New Year – The year of the Dragon
This year we celebrate the year of the Dragon! The dragon is the fifth animal out of twelve in the Chinese zodiac and is a very strong symbol for happiness. They are also considered as perfect leaders.

It is said that the Jade emperor once called every species to a meeting but that since these meetings were known to be boring and dull, only twelve animals showed… These animals are the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac.

In China, the new year is celebrated with a special kind of sticky rice in the shape of a ball, called Tang Yuan. The round shape is supposed to symbolize that the entire family is gathered and that they will not be separated during the year.

If you are born in the year of the Dragon, you should be extra careful in the year to come since the risk of being attacked by evil spirits is big… Wear red to avoid this since red is the color of fire, keeping the evil spirits away.

A common gift to celebrate the new year is red envelopes with money. These are called Hong Bao and they give luck to both the giver and the receiver. The more money the envelope contains, the more luck the giver can expect! New notes mean extra qi, power of life.
